Political Activism, Take 2

In keeping with our tradition of exposing our children to political activism at a young age (see this post, Sept. 2009), I decided to take the girls down the street to the Victory Rally for Mitt Romney.

Line of supporters waiting for the shuttle bus to take us to the event.  We got to ride on the red bus, which was a double decker bus!  We sat on the top level, which Diana thought was pretty cool!

Full parking lot (the second one) 90 minutes before the event

Lee Greenwood was there!  He sang for about 30 minutes before the program began, and then also sang the National Anthem to begin the program

My crazies eating their lunch on my sweater.  We were not supposed to bring many personal items, as we had to go through airport-like security, so I packed my trusty 31 cross-body purse with the essentials...raisin bread, Goldfish, fruit snacks, and candy corn (for bribes to be quiet...I'm not ashamed to admit it...they also are getting Frostys after their nap).  :)

An example of the two things I brought to keep the kids quiet...my Nook, on which they could play games, and my camera (which D used to take this picture) with an empty memory card so she could waste as many pictures as necessary to keep her occupied.

We felt very safe at the event...we stood right in front of the local police and had to go through the Secret Service to get into the event.

Dennis Miller was also there!  He was really funny.

VA Gov. Bob McDonnell

There he is!

His speech was a lot of recap from last night's debate, without interruptions, and focused solely on domestic policy.  He looks and sounds exactly like he does on TV.  Diana asked when she saw Gov. Romney on the big TV, "Is that the news?"  :)

He gave a great speech, with a very clear direction for where he wants to go and how we're going to get there.  Rather refreshing.

Very energized and excited for the next 20 days!

We had a great time at the rally.  The girls were really pretty well-behaved and I am very glad we decided to go!  Hopefully one day they can say they saw the POTUS speak!
